The River Kennet is one of England’s most important chalk streams. Forty-five miles in length, the river rises to the west of Marlborough and eventually flows into the River Thames at Sonning, near Reading. The Chilton Estate owns more than 5,000 yards of fishing banks on the river, between Chilton Foliat and Eddington. The river and its surrounding water meadows are managed under the Higher Level Stewardship Scheme, and their rich bio-diversity is maintained through selective grazing, careful restoration and management. A small group of fishermen catch brown and rainbow trout during the fishing season, using dry flies.
